Hart Jr., John J. "Jack" View/Sign Guest Book

FRAMINGHAM John J. Jack Hart Jr., 87, a lifelong resident of Framingham, died Wednesday, April 30, 2008, at St. Patricks Manor, Framingham. He was the husband of Louise I. (Whitcher) Hart of Framingham for 62 years. He was the son of the late John J. and Mary F. (Sullivan) Hart. Jack was a loving and caring husband and father throughout his whole life, both during his vast career and in his retirement, when he continued to play and teach piano. Jack was an avid musician and began playing piano at 9 and continued until as recently as several days ago when he entertained a delighted crowd of residents at St. Patricks Manor. Jack attended Boston College and received his Bachelor of Arts degree in sociology in 1942 and earned a master's degree in education from Boston University in 1955. After graduating from BC, he was commissioned as an ensign in the Navy on Dec. 2, 1942. He was appointed to lieutenant prior to his discharge in January 1946. He served on the U.S.S. Nipmuc ATF 157 and U.S.S. Maricopa ATA 146 stationed in Bermuda in the American Theatre and later in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre during World War II. In 1949, Jack began teaching academics at the Framingham Vocational School, then on Irving Street, later teaching English at Framingham High School. When Framingham North High School was opened, Jack became vice principal. He served as vice principal and then acting principal until his retirement in 1982, when he received an official citation from the Massachusetts State Senate, recognizing him for his 33 years of service to the Framingham School System. So many students loved him, many becoming lifelong friends. Jack was an active community leader, including being president of the Framingham Rotary Club in 1976. Jacks passion for music took him near and far, from his early years playing at the Mackey school of dance in Framingham to Paris on the Normandie and back on the S.S. Paris just before World War II. He entertained thousands over the years from his 15 years at the Maridor to playing for Hollywood greats at the Chateau de Ville and countless weddings and private parties. In his later years, he played at the Callahan Senior Center and several of the areas retirement homes to the delight of many residents. Besides his wife, Louise, he is survived by his children, Peter Hart and his wife, Karen, of Ft. Myers, Fla., Jack Hart III and his wife, Karen, of Mashpee, Greg Hart and Michelle Fredette of Lincoln and Bonnie Higgins and her husband, Peter, of Lincoln; his grandchildren, Stephanie Dalton and her husband, Michael, of Andover, Katrina Hart of Waltham, Shannon Hart of Mashpee, Sam, Harry and Abby Higgins, all of Lincoln; and his great-grandchildren, James and John Dalton, both of Andover. He also is survived by many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Helen Hart Collins. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral Tuesday, May 6, at 8 a.m. from Norton Funeral Home (www.nortonfuneralhome.com), 53 Beech St. (corner of Union Avenue), Framingham, followed by his funeral Mass at 9 a.m. at St. Bridgets Church, Rte. 9, at Framingham Center. Burial will follow in St. Stephen Cemetery, Framingham. Visiting hours at the funeral home will be Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. Expressions of sympathy in his memory may be made to John J. Jack Hart Jr. Memorial Fund, c/o TD Banknorth, N.A., 420 Franklin St., Framingham, MA 01702. Funds will be used for a Framingham North High School scholarship, details to be announced later.
